Re: Random Facts of the Day
Lol, nice logic puzzle ^ took me a minute to see that it was binary sorry about not posting your facts of the day yesterday, I was in the hospital and then after the benadryl shot they gave me, I passed out for about 13 hrs anyway, here's two facts for you today:
On this day in history::
Supreme Court Justice Samuel Chase was tried for political bias.
Barbados became independent of Great Britain.

Re: Random Facts of the Day
And comment above, while I get how to get a number into binary code, it's confusing for me to try to figure how to get it from binary back into a number? Care to try to explain?

Re: Random Facts of the Day
You have to put the binary out in a row, then replace the corresponding 1 with a 2 to the power of the decimal position.
So: 5 = 101
from right to left
Binary:
1 0 1
Decimal position:
2 1 0
So for each 1 to the power of Decimal position you get
2^2 + 0 + 2^0 = 4 + 0 + 1 = 5
More advanced:
1 0 1 1 0 1
5 4 3 2 1 0
2^5 + 0 + 2^3 + 2^2 + 0 + 2^0
= 32 + 0 + 8 + 4 + 0 + 1
= 45
So: 5 = 101
from right to left
Binary:
1 0 1
Decimal position:
2 1 0
So for each 1 to the power of Decimal position you get
2^2 + 0 + 2^0 = 4 + 0 + 1 = 5
More advanced:
1 0 1 1 0 1
5 4 3 2 1 0
2^5 + 0 + 2^3 + 2^2 + 0 + 2^0
= 32 + 0 + 8 + 4 + 0 + 1
= 45

Re: Random Facts of the Day
Lol, that sounds like me in HS, I have all AP/Honors level classes, 5's in AP, 94-100s in Honors level classes, haven't studied this year yet
Anyway, random fact for you today
A fully loaded supertanker travelling at normal speed takes a least twenty minutes to stop.
^
So according to the laws of physics in the world, it's either really massive or going really fast b/c I don't know what a supertanker is myself

Re: Random Facts of the Day
A supertanker is a big ship that transports lots of goods at the same time. Like a huge cruiser, and then each passenger is a few tons of cargo.
Something massive can go very fast, the only problem is is that you will need one huge straight way to allow it to speed up, the same for breaking down and steering too probably!

Makes sense, fits in with physics:
Impulse=ΔP (where P=Momentum)
and
P=MV (Mass X Velocity)
anyway, random fact of the day:
The king of hearts is the only king without a mustache on a standard playing card

Re: Random Facts of the Day
Interesting inverse fact here nationalism apparently fails in a minority:
7% of Americans don't know the first 9 words of the American anthem, but know the first 7 of the Canadian anthem.
5% of Canadians don't know the first 7 words of the Canadian anthem, but know the first 9 of the American anthem.

Re: Random Facts of the Day
I have a nice one:
According to experienced Windows 7 Users, never EVER format a disk when you get over 4 warnings that it says there "might" be some system files on while your Windows 7 is installed on a different partition.
I've experienced.
It is fixed now, however

You guys in Europe might know Eric Whitacre, unfortunately he is sadly underrated in America
